Frequently Asked Questions

You've Got Questions, I’ve Got Answers

Can you tell me more about the lessons?

All lessons are taught one-on-one with a dedicated tutor. This ensures that you receive your tutor’s full attention and will make fast progress. Each lesson lasts 55 minutes and is taught via Skype, Facetime, Hangouts, etc. allowing you to communicate with your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
Normally, the tutor will first assess your level and discuss your goals with you. Then they will aim to tailor the lessons to your individual

When can I take lessons?

You can learn at a pace that you’re comfortable with – it’s completely up to you when and how often you take lessons. When we give you access to book your trial session, just make sure the tutor you pick has booking times that fit your schedule. If your weekly availability is very limited, our support team can instead match you with an appropriate tutor. You can also change your tutor later if required.

How long are the lessons?

Each lesson lasts for 55 minutes. This is an optimal length as it allows for a lot to be covered and for students to maintain their concentration levels. It’s also short enough to squeeze into students’ busy lives! If you really want to take longer lessons, you can simply book two lessons back to back, meaning you will have just under two hours with a five minute break in the middle.

Is video used or just audio?

The vast majority of the time tutors use both video and audio. Tutors may very occasionally suggest turning the camera off and just use audio in order to focus on the language or improve the connection.

Can I use other VOIP / IM / Chat software other than SKYPE and where can I set this up?

SKYPE is the preferred Voice Over IP / IM / Chat software programs used by most of the users on Instant Spanish Tutoring, however, we offer the option of different programs that you can add to your profile.

Are the lessons suitable for kids and teenagers?

Kids and Teenagers occasionally learn with a tutor in order to support their school/college studies. Often, the student shares their school materials with their tutor via email and the lessons either follow these materials or cover related topics. We always require permission to be given by parents, who should also give their child’s age and describe their needs.

Will I need to buy any materials?

No you won’t need to – your tutor will share materials with you online.

Money Back Guarantee?

If for whatever reason you are not satisfied after your first lesson, you can get a full refund on your payment.

What happens if I do not show up to a lesson?

If you book a lesson but don’t show up to it, your tutor will lose time that they could have been teaching someone else and therefore they still need to be paid. So, unfortunately if you miss your lesson you will lose your lesson payment. If you think you may not be able to attend a lesson, you can email us to reschedule up to 12 hours before your lesson.

Can you tell me more about the tutors?

We have a rigorous screening process that ensures that all tutors can teach to a high standard. This is reflected in our average rating. Whichever tutor you have, you can be assured that they will be talented, friendly and reliable. In addition to being native-speakers of the languages they teach, they also speak English and German.

Will my lessons always be with the same tutor?

We recommend sticking with the same tutor because it helps to develop a long-term relationship. They can get to know you, your interests and what you need to improve. That said, you can change your tutor if you wish. Also, very occasionally students may need to change to a new tutor due to a lack of availability.
